Herbal Apothecary

At CALM HealthWorks, we offer the full Herbs of Grace Pharmacy of herbal formulas created by Dr. Farida Sharan, which have been used successfully in clinical practice for 30 years.

These fresh, hand-blended formulas are made with the highest quality organic and, where possible, ethically wildcrafted herbs and plants. In the few cases where a particular herb is not available organically grown, we have used a high quality non-organic alternative. Most importantly, the herbs are safe, nutritious, non-toxic, and non-habit forming.

We also offer formulas developed by Andi Locke Mears which address additional wellness and nutritional needs. These formulas have been developed as a response to client’s needs and have been tried and tested before being offered to the general public.

PLANTS AS MEDICINE - IN THE BEGINNING

Plant based medicine has been with us for a very long time.

  • A 60,000-year-old burial site in Iraq contained evidence of eight different medicinal plants, probably intended to be taken along in the afterlife.
  • The Chinese have practiced herbal use for over 5000 years.
  • By 3500 B.C., the Ancient Egyptians began to associate less magic with the treatment of disease. The Papyus Ebers, an ancient text written in 1500 BC, contains references to more than 700 herbal remedies, including herbs such as aloe, caraway seeds, poppy, and garlic.
  • By 2700 B.C., the Chinese started to use herbs in a more scientific sense.
  • In the 500 B.C., Hippocrates, the famous Greek physician, listed approximately 400 herbs in common use.
  • Around 65 A.D., Pedanius Dioscorides, a Greek physician serving with the Roman army, wrote "De Materia Medica," in which he described the medicinal uses of many herbs.
  • The medical inheritance of ancient Egypt passed to Greece, then to Rome. The Roman empire used herbal remedies quite extensively.
  • Unfortunately, the Middle Ages were not favorable to the progress of herbs in medicine. In fact, the Catholic Church began burning herbalists, having associated them both with witchcraft and paganism.
  • In 1652, Nicholas Culpeper published a comprehensive herbal, The English Physitian. In it, he systematically cataloged all the known herbal remedies of England. Dedicating his efforts to the common people, Culpeper showed them how they could rely on their own herbal remedies rather than the expensive concoctions of doctors.

While many of our herbal remedies today derive from Ayurvedic (India), Chinese, Roman and Greek sources all ancient civilizations, including the Mayans, Aztecs, and Egyptians, and native, indigenous cultures such as Native American and Aborigine, employed herbs in treating illness. Thus, Humankind has used herbs to treat illnesses for thousands of years and most of the world's people still continue to use herbs to benefit their bodies.

PRESENT DAY

Herbalists today, believe and seek to help people build their good health with natural sources. Herbs are considered to be food rather than medicine because they're complete, all-natural and pure, as nature intended. When herbs are taken, the body starts to be cleansed, purifying itself. Unlike chemically-synthesized, highly concentrated drugs that can produce many side effects, herbs can realign the body's defenses, helping it to heal itself without any side effects. Herbs do not produce instant miracle cures, but rather offer a way to put the body in tune with nature and balance the iner ecology.

CONSULTATIONS

We recommend an Initial Consultation OR Iridology Consultation with C. Andi Locke Mears before purchasing any botanical formulas. During the consultation, a Pathways to Health MAP (multi-action plan) will be developed that includes diet & nutrition, botanical formulas, German New Medicine results, natural health treatments, and much more. Each person’s individual constitution and lifestyle are taken into consideration along with their health and wellness goals when the MAP is developed.

“For what it's worth, the most fascinating part of it all for me was the bit about the positive and negative charge our red blood cells take on depending on the Ph of the blood.  With an overly acidic or yin composition they take on a negative charge and are magnetically drawn together and clump-up with each other.  Not a very efficient way to disperse oxygen through they system.  Better they should have a slightly positive charge and are slightly repelling each other so that they completely diffuse throughout the bloodstream filling every possible micro-millimeter of blood volume.

At least that's the understanding I came away with.  I hope it's accurate, because it sure is fascinating!  And I would think it would especially be to athletes who need the most efficient oxygen delivery setup they can get.  To that end I've no been putting a little apple cider vinegar into my water bottle that I take with me into the gym and pool.

You just tell 'em Mary: You got to remain positive, right down to the make up of your blood!”
